Project description: 

Design and construction of four new process modules to increase yield optimisation of the Mt Cattlin plant. The works include optimisation of the existing lithium processing facility, which runs at 1.6mtpa, to increase production and quality of yield and reduce process water usage by way of various process upgrade opportunities in the ultrafines, secondary floats, optical sorting circuits, dewatering, and other areas.

Scope of work:

An EPC contract for the design, engineering, construction and commissioning of the following circuits within an operating plant environment:

  • Fines recovery circuit including wet high intensity magnetic separation (WHIMS)
  • Secondary floats re-liberation circuit
  • Optical sorting circuit
  • Process water upgrade
  • Miscellaneous brownfield plant modifications/upgrades

Highlights and achievements:

  • Lost time injury (LTI) free
  • With a 50 per cent Increase in project scope the original completion date was only impacted by a three-week extension
  • Construction occurred between June and December, majority during winter, with only eight days lost due to inclement weather
  • Project staff and supervision turnover rate of 0 per cent and a direct personnel turnover rate of less than 5 per cent
